In July, many U.S. residents will have the opportunity to receive new stimulus checks. These monthly payments, which can amount to $500, are contingent on households meeting specific state-level qualifications.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which triggered a severe financial crisis, many low-income families faced rising inflation and limited healthcare access. The federal government’s Economic Impact Payments (EIPs) aimed to assist millions of Americans in their recovery.

Despite these efforts, the relief provided was insufficient for many. Recognizing this, local and state governments have stepped in to offer longer-term support instead of one-time payments.

These ongoing stimulus payments are intended to help low-income households manage healthcare costs and cope with inflation. Funding for these payments comes from sources like budget surpluses or previous tax returns and income.

What states send a $500 monthly payment?

In California, several initiatives have been launched to support low-income families. The Long Beach Pledge Program is set to provide $500 per month to about 200 low-income families with children, continuing from spring 2024 to spring 2025.

Similarly, the Elevate MV program in Mountain View offers $500 monthly to around 166 low-income parents, with payments running from December 2022 to December 2024.

Meanwhile, Sonoma County’s Pathway to Income Equity program is distributing $500 each month to approximately 305 low-income households, from January 2023 to January 2025.

In Flint, the Rx Kids program provides a one-time $1,500 payment followed by $500 monthly to about 1,200 new and expectant mothers, starting January 2024 and ending in spring 2025.

Washington’s Tacoma has introduced the Growing Resilience in Tacoma program, which provides up to $500 per month to low-income households. Payments for this program will continue through June 2025, offering sustained support to the community.

In New Mexico, Santa Fe’s Learn, Earn, Achieve program offers $400 monthly to 98 young, low-income parents enrolled in courses at Santa Fe Community College. This program will run from January 2024 through spring 2025.

New York’s Bridge Project supports 1,200 low-income mothers with up to $1,000 monthly payments. This initiative began in June 2021 and is ongoing, providing consistent financial aid to those in need.

Michigan has also implemented programs to assist its residents. The Guaranteed Income to Grow Ann Arbor initiative is delivering $528 monthly to roughly 100 low-income entrepreneurs from January 2024 through December 2025.
