West Virginia Native will be first women from state to head to space

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – West Virginia Native Emily Calandrelli will be going to space.

In a post on her Social Media, she explains that she will be one of the 100 women to go into space, and the first female astronaut from West Virginia.

Calandrelli is an MIT-Engineer turned tv host. She is known for her Emmy-nominated science TV show on Netflix, Emily’s Wonder Lab, as well as an author, and professional speaker.

Calandrelli is a Morgantown native. She went to WVU for her bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and then moved on to MIT for her master’s in Aeronautics and Astronautics, as well as Technology and Policy.

Calandrelli announced on her Facebook page that she will be heading to space with Blue Origin.

The announcement was posted at noon on Tuesday, July 16th. She has been teasing the announcement with posts to her social media in the preceding days.
