DEARBORN, Mich. (WLUC) – The state gas price average hit a new 2024 high on Friday but fell again slightly over the weekend.
However, the decrease didn’t bring the price down much, as it’s still 10 cents more than last week. Michigan drivers now pay an average of $3.78 for a gallon of regular gas. That price is 8 cents more than this time last month and 12 cents more than this time last year.
Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group says “Refinery issues in Joliet, Illinois, alongside higher gasoline demand, have led to an increase in gas prices across the upper Midwest.” The national average stayed nearly steady over the past week, rising 1 cent to $3.51 per gallon.
Around the Upper Peninsula, the lowest average is in Gogebic County at $3.47 per gallon. The highest continues to be in Mackinac County, at $3.88 per gallon.
