Multi-state chase ends when suspect crashes into police car in York, Maine

YORK, Maine (WMTW) – A police chase involving a stolen vehicle that started in New Hampshire ended in southern Maine overnight Monday into Tuesday.

New Hampshire State Police say a trooper spotted a car at about 11:45 p.m. Monday going over 100 mph north on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth.

The trooper tried to stop the 2012 Toyota Camry, which was reported stolen out of Wilmington, Massachusetts, but police say the driver sped up and refused to stop.

The chase crossed into Kittery as police in Maine joined the pursuit. Police say the car got off the highway at Exit 3 in Kittery and continued into York before the driver went down a dead-end road.

Police say that’s when the driver, Steven Hebert, 42, of Worcester, Massachusetts, turned his car around and crashed into a New Hampshire State Police cruiser.

Hebert was then quickly arrested. Police say no one was hurt.

Hebert is now facing a list of charges in both Maine and New Hampshire.
