BALTIMORE, Md. (July 19, 2024)–Morgan State University’s third-year head volleyball coach, Xiomara Ortiz, has unveiled the eagerly anticipated schedule for the 2024 season.
 
The 27-match schedule features 11 homes contests, four tournaments, as well as the traditional Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) home-and-away slate, which consists of 14 matchups.
 
The annual Orange and Navy scrimmage will take place on August 17 at Hill Field House. The MEAC Volleyball Championship Tournament will once again be held in Dover, Del. at Memorial Hall on the campus of Delaware State University on Nov. 21-24, 2024.
 
“I am very excited about our 2024 fall season schedule,” said Ortiz. “I’m excited to open the season with the Towson/Morgan State Invitational. We bring in tough teams (Lehigh, Duquesne, St. Francis Pa., Towson) that will challenge us right away. We get opportunities to travel to the Georgia area where we can face new opponents (West Georgia, Georgia State and UNC Asheville) and expose our level of play to a major volleyball area.”
 
“Our schedule will challenge us in really great ways. The MEAC Conference is also going to be an exciting season because there are new athletes in the cycle from all schools and anyone can rise to the top this year.” 
 
The Bears will kick off the season at home for the first time since 2021, when they co-host the Morgan State/Towson Invitational (Aug. 30-Sept. 1). Morgan begins the three-day tournament against Lehigh before facing Duquesne and Saint Francis-Pa. All three contests will be played at Hill Field House. Morgan will close out the weekend on the road against co-host Towson.
 
Morgan State will take a trip to the Peach State for the West Georgia Tournament (Sept. 6-7). The Bears will face Georgia State and host West Georgia on the opening day and will close out the trip against UNC Asheville.
 
The Bears return home to welcome Bowie State on Sept. 10 for the second annual Education Day.
 
Next up is a trip to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Penn Invitational (Sept. 13-14) at historic The Palestra. Morgan will open the weekend against Le Moyne, before closing out against Manhattan and host Penn.  
 
Morgan will wrap up its preseason tournament slate with a visit to George Mason for the Patriot Invite (Sept. 19-21) in Fairfax, Va. The Bears will take on host George Mason on the opening day, before taking on Gardner Webb the next day. Morgan will close out the three-day tournament against Fairleigh Dickinson.
 
The 2024 MEAC slate gets underway at home on Sept. 27 against the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore. Two days later Morgan State will be on the road when it visits Delaware State (Sept. 29).
 
After having last season’s homecoming festivities canceled, this season the Bears will look to host their annual homecoming contest for the first time since the 2022 campaign. Friday night Morgan State will face North Carolina Central (Oct. 4), before welcoming South Carolina State (Oct. 6) for its traditional Sunday homecoming match.
 
Morgan will head to the Nation’s Capital to take on Beltway rival Howard (Oct. 11), before returning home to face Norfolk State (Oct. 13).
 
The first half of the conference schedule will end on the road when Morgan battles defending MEAC champion and crosstown rival Coppin State (Oct. 18).
 
The Bears will remain on the road to begin the second half of league play when they visit Maryland Eastern Shore (Oct. 25), before welcoming Delaware State (Oct. 27).
 
Morgan State will head to the Carolina’s for stops at North Carolina Central (Nov. 1) and South Carolina State (Nov. 3), before returning home to entertain Howard (Nov. 8).
 
Morgan State concludes its road schedule when it travels to Virginia’s Tidewater area for a match against Norfolk State (Nov. 10) and will close out the regular season against Coppin State (Nov. 15) for Senior Night.
 
This year’s MEAC Championship Tournament will be held at Delaware State’s Memorial Hall in Dover, Del. (Nov. 21-24).
