COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – As wildfires rage elsewhere in the state and nation, Springs firefighters are lending a hand to their brothers and sisters in arms.
CSFD announced Monday that it had several employees deployed to wildfires burning outside the Pikes Peak region.
“We have two members, a captain and a lieutenant in Oregon with the Rocky Mountain IMT 1 managing several fires. One fire captain is out in Idaho as a member of the Rocky Mountain IMT 3 assisting them with several fires. Here in Colorado, we have a team of three led by a Fire Lieutenant going to Mesa Verde National Park where they had several starts because of lightning,” its Facebook post stated.
Rocky Mountain Incident Management teams are a blend of local, state and federal agencies and is typically deployed when the firefight becomes too complex for just the local fire departments. According to its website, its team members have a combined several hundred years of experience.
