Wisconsin government officials release statements on Biden stepping down

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A number of high profile Wisconsin government officials released statements shortly after President Biden announced via social media that he would not run for presidential reelection in 2024.

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin thanked Biden for his dedication to the country and his work within Wisconsin as well.

“It has been an honor to work with Joe Biden to deliver real, meaningful change for working Wisconsinites across our state,” said Sen. Balwdin.

She then went on to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President.

Eric Hovde, running against Baldwin for the U.S. Senate seat also released a statement on X regarding Biden’s announcement.

State Senator Melissa Agard joined Baldwin in thanking Biden for his time served as president.

“I am filled with gratitude for President Biden and his lifetime of public service. This decision was courageous and reflects the President’s selfless dedication to his country. There is no doubt in my mind that his achievements will cement Joe Biden’s legacy as one of the most consequential presidents of our time,” said Agard.

State Representative Clinton Anderson released a similar statement while also endorsing Harris for President.

“Vice President Kamala Harris is the best placed to be our next democratic nominee for President and has what it takes to beat Donald Trump this fall. I fully endorse her to be our nominee and our next president.” said Anderson.

“President Biden epitomizes the best of American leaders and heroes. After a lifetime of service to the people of the United States of America, an historic and successful first term as President, where he saved the American dream from the grasp of authoritarianism, Biden gracefully and selflessly passed the torch to a new generation, as few in past generations or civilizations ever have,” said Roys.
