Indeed shared data on the skills most wanted for AI jobs in Singapore, including machine learning (ML) and Python programming, PyTorch, C++, and Java.

Callam Pickering,

Callam Pickering, senior economist at Indeed APAC, said, “Singapore has rapidly established itself as a global leader on GenAI, adopting these tools faster than their global peers. As AI becomes crucial across industries, there’s a growing need for these skills. This data helps recruiters target specific skills and helps job seekers stay competitive.”

Wanted skills

The data shows that some 61% of generative AI jobs in Singapore mention “machine learning,” while around 54% ask for Python skills, which are highly valued for their flexibility in AI and machine learning.

PyTorch and C++ are in-demand skills mentioned in 24% and 23% of job ads, respectively.

Deep learning (19%) and programming languages like Java (18%), C (13%), SQL (12%), Spark (11%), and Linux (10%) are also among the in-demand skills in Singapore.

AI careers

Data from Indeed also revealed that searches for AI jobs increased by nearly 150% from March 2018 to March 2023, signifying a sharp rise in interest in AI careers.

The Singaporean government plans a $1 billion investment to strengthen AI capabilities, aiming to make the country an AI hub.

“Singaporean businesses are facing a shortage of talent, with intense competition driven by AI,” Pickering added. “Recruiters need to prioritise hiring for AI skills to keep up with the demand and ensure they don’t fall behind in leveraging Singapore’s AI growth.”
