Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg has congratulated Roberta Metsola on her re-appointment as the European Parliament President, taking this opportunity to reflect on what continues to be a momentous 2024 for the islands’ political endeavours worldwide.

“2024 is indeed a historic year for Malta, with our seat on the UN Security Council, the 2024 Maltese Chairpersonship of the OSCE, and a Maltese MEP leading the European Parliament,” Borg wrote after congratulating Metsola on her second consecutive term.

“It is now time for all of us to commit to Malta’s long-standing dedication to peace, tolerance, and justice,” Borg finished. “Together, we must work to end wars and violence and promote peace above all else, in Europe and beyond.”

Meanwhile, Maltese Labour MEP Alex Agius Saliba stated he abstained from voting in the election because he “couldn’t give his support to Metsola”.
