Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) engineer roles have surged by 433% since 2022, according to a new report from Indeed, the global matching and hiring platform. The analysis, covering January 2022 to June 2024, reveals significant growth in both high-tech and service-oriented positions across various sectors in India.

BPO executive positions follow closely with a 313% increase, highlighting the continued expansion of India’s outsourcing industry. Other rapidly growing roles include receptionists (309% increase), travel consultants (284%), and electricians (258%).

“The rapid rise in AI/ML engineer roles highlights the critical importance of technological innovation in today’s job market. Meanwhile, the significant growth in BPO executive positions reflects India’s robust outsourcing capabilities,” said Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India.

The report also identified the fastest-growing sectors, with sanitation leading at 159% growth, followed by construction (121%), therapy (102%), education (96%), and medical (91%).

The surge in therapy-related positions suggests an increased focus on mental health services. Meanwhile, the growth in construction and electrician roles points to a boom in infrastructure and real estate development.

The data highlights the importance of both technological skills and customer service abilities in the current economy.

Indeed’s analysis is based on job posting data on its platform, which is used by almost 3.5 million employers globally to find and hire new employees.
