Indeed, the job services giant headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, has announced it is laying off approximately 1,000 workers, representing about 8% of the company’s workforce. This news comes one year after the company laid off over 2,000 employees.

A letter posted on the company’s corporate website and written by CEO Chris Hyams explained the unfortunate situation to the employees. He said he is “sad” over the news.

“I am sad to share the news that we have made the difficult decision to reduce our headcount through a layoff,” he stated. “Unlike last year, where our reduction was driven by cost savings, we are taking this action because we need to simplify our organization to make it easier and faster for us to make decisions, and help us to more effectively grow revenue and hires.”

Hyams revealed these reduced positions were “mostly concentrated in the US.” He claims the company worked closely with its HR, DEIB+, and legal teams to ensure “objectivity” and “equity” in decision-making. He added that those impacted by layoffs did not have a “disproportionate impact on women and under-represented genders or the under-represented minority population in the US.”

Employees who were impacted received an email that included a link to the details of their separation package. Hyams added that package amounts have been increased for most employees over the last year and include severance, outplacement services, and healthcare payment where applicable, among other things.

Hyams claimed responsibility for these particular layoffs. He also has a keen understanding that these decisions will have a “significant impact” on people’s lives.

The CEO concluded that although these changes were “difficult,” the impending new structure would help the company work more effectively as one team. Therefore, he believes these changes could bring much-needed revenue to the company as it works toward its 2030 goal to help 100 million people get jobs.

NBC CT reported that in 2017, Connecticut’s then-governor Dannel Malloy expanded Indeed’s offices, located in Stamford. This resulted in a flux of over 1,200 employees headquartered at that location. The company’s previous round of layoffs in 2023 was attributed to a post-COVID job market, according to Spectrum News.
