JACKSON, Tenn. — A global software outage has affected many essential services across the U.S.

We visited the Tennessee Department of Transportation where they’re having issues processing transactions due to a global outage that not only affects them, but other driver services across the entire nation, and also airlines, doctors offices and even various stock exchanges.

One resident says she intended on getting her daughters permit today but that didn’t happen.

“Unfortunately they couldn’t take her permit test because everything online is down. So, they don’t have access to their computer systems or anything,” said MaryJo Howard, Jackson resident.

We asked when they’re telling them service will be up and running again and here’s what she had to say.

“They just said call back at two o’clock and see if they’re online,” said Howard.

This massive destruction has affected companies and services around the world and highlights the dependence on software from a hand full of providers.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, a U.S. based company linked to the global outage, assures the public it was not a security incident or a cyberattack.

“The system was sent an update and that update had a software bug in it, and caused an issue with the Microsoft operating system,” said CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz.

Some outages have cleared up but there’s no estimate time as to when other outages are expected to last.

“We are working with each and every customer to make sure that we can bring them back online,” said Kurtz.

Kurtz assures everyone that there is no threat to be concerned about. They know what the issues are and they’re working to resolve it.

The Department Homeland Security released press statements Friday confirming the potential impact to government services.

According to CNN, It’s uncertain how long the outage recovery process is expected to be until it’s complete, but they continue to work swiftly to resolve the issue.
