Purchase and rental prices for Zendaya’s hit tennis movie Challengers have been reduced ahead of the movie’s premiere on streaming video on demand.

A romantic sports drama, Challengers opened in theaters on April 26 before making a quick pivot to digital streaming via premium video on demand on May 17.

Originally, Challengers was only available as a PVOD rental title for $19.99 with no option to purchase it.

Now, Challengers is available to rent on PVOD for $5.99 and purchase for $19.99 on such digital platforms as Prime Video, AppleTV+ and Fandango at Home (aka VUDU).

If fans want to wait until July 29, Challengers will become a streaming title on MGM+. You have to be a paid subscriber, however, to stream movies on MGM+.

What Is ‘Challengers’ About?

Challengers stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a high-ranking college tennis player whose plans to turn pro are dashed by a devastating knee injury.

Set over the course of 13 years, Challengers focuses on Tashi’s challenging life dealing with Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor) and Art Donaldson (Mike Faist). Once inseparable close buddies and doubles partners, Patrick and Mike’s friendship is fractured over the love they both have for Tashi.

The film is framed within a crucial match in 2019 between Patrick and Mike. The story, however, unfolds through several flashback scenes dating back as far as 2006—where we learn of the trio’s destructive love triangle and their attempts to make amends with each other.

The Numbers reported that Challengers made $50. 1 million domestically and $43.9 million internationally for a worldwide tally of $94 million during its theatrical run. The box office tracker said Challengers had a $55 million production budget before prints and advertising costs.

Challengers—which is directed by directed by Call Me By Your Name filmmaker Luca Guadagnino—was a smash hit with Rotten Tomatoes critics, who collectively gave it an 89% “fresh” rating based on 349 reviews.

RT users gave Challengers a 73% “fresh” Audience Score based on more than 500 verified user ratings.
