Digital Foundry analyzes Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition

After twenty years, we’re still waiting for a sequel to Beyond Good and Evil. On the bright side, we did just receive a remastered version of the original game, complete with updated graphics and a few pieces of new content. If you’re wondering how this version of the game holds up, the tech experts over at Digital Foundry have gone ahead and released a full analysis of all versions of the new release.

In the above video, you can see direct comparisons between the game running on Switch, PS5, and XBox Series X/S. The Switch version fares well in some areas, but is lacking in others. See below for a breakdown of the key technical points for Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition on Switch.

  • Runs in 1080p while docked, with resolution dropping to around 900p in busier areas
  • Runs in a consistent 720p in handheld mode
  • Textures, shadows, and reflections are clearly downgraded compared to PS5 version on characters, items, and environments
  • Capped at 30fps, with occasional drops to 20fps or even lower in areas/sequences with large amounts of enemies or demanding effects

Be sure to watch the video above for a full breakdown with lots of footage to see exactly how the Switch version of the game runs.
