SANFORD (WGME) — Governor Janet Mills is voicing her support for Vice President Kamala Harris now that President Joe Biden has bowed out of the race for the White House.
Mills says she’s feeling energized and optimistic about Harris’ campaign for President.
Harris was the Attorney General for California at the same time Mills was serving as Attorney General in Maine.
The governor says she had dinner multiple times with Harris and says they worked together on consumer issues against banks and lenders.
She says she is proud to support a fellow prosecutor.
While Mills remains a strong supporter of Biden, she says she respects his decision to step down and is excited to support Harris’ campaign.
“I respect this man, I think the people of Maine and the people of America respect him,” Mills said. “And respect him for his choice to give up the campaign for reelection and place the people of this country as his highest priority.”
Harris’ husband, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, is planning to campaign in Maine this week.
Mills says she does plan on meeting with him while he’s in the state.
